Dress!

I have achieved Dress! The pictures are awful -- these are the best of the bunch.

Dress!

Dress!

It is very hard to take pictures of myself. The pattern did not promise to be "Easy", and it was not: the collar was hard, the midriff was hard, I had to take the bottom trim off and do it again (mostly due to my own boneheadedness). The seam ripper and I became very good friends during this project. And to be honest, I enjoyed every head banging, frustrating minute of it. It was like a big puzzle, and at the end...a dress! Very cool.

Next up, something easier. This pattern is much more appropriate for the blue and green paisley fabric (something having to do with grain direction). No ifs, ands, or buts about it: I am obsessed.

Fabulous! (I came over here from DressADay). Great fabric combo! I don't know about the walkaway being easier, though. I'm scared of that dress! It looks like it would make me even more intimate with the seamripper than I already am. I think sewing progress goes something like this: sew 2, rip 1. Kind of like knitting rhythm, but different. I've gotten to a point where I'm so used to ripping, I don't even notice it. I just bring out the ripper right away as part of my standard handy tools when I sit down at the machine. Hooray for you! Hooray for sewing!

Very pretty dress - great job! And I do love the paisley fabric you have too.

Ooh! I love your fabric choice! (Also here from Dress a Day). Looks like you made the same pattern for your first dress that I did. That was the dress that inspired me to start sewing. The combination of fabrics is so gorgeous and springlike though. Beautiful! (And no, I don't like any of the pictures of me in mine, either. But DANG, I'm proud of having made the dress!)

I dropped in from Dress a Day and wow-great job!!I love the fabric combination and I think that the walkaway dress in the retro looking paisley will turn out great.

I have been thinking about finally re-learning how to sew, and you have inspired me! That dress is so cute, and such a flattering style, too. I'm gonna have to start thinking about getting a machine again.

I can't knit anymore. My tendonitis is too bad.

Also here form Dress a Day -- the Walk A Way - is very very very easy. I have done both and the walk away is far and a way easier. Your duro is lovely and I am sure your walk a way will be very lovely. the walk away pattern run huge, not big, HUGE!

You did a great job. I can identify with the seam ripper too - a garment isn't really finished for me if I haven't ripped out at least one seam!

I saw in your profile that one of your favorite books is P&P - have you seen the Sense and Sensibility site for patterns? My daughter and I got the Regency dress pattern - but still haven't made it yet- soon though. You can easily find it by going to sensibility.com Lots of pictures there show how others have interpreted the same pattern - so many options for just one pattern!
Blessings,
Patti

Congratulations!

I have made a total of one dress ever and some how I failed to notice that it was hard, even though it was plaid and I really don't sew. Now all I have to do is find me some great paisley and rip myself away from the computer and make another one. ;)
